Nestled 12 km north of Pollachi in Tamil Nadu, Kodi Swamigal Jeevasamadhi stands as a serene spiritual heaven at Puravipalayam. The tranquil surroundings offer a divine space for meditation, where one can effortlessly slip into deep meditative states and experience inner stillness.
The Enigmatic Saint
Sri Sri Sri Ponmudi Kodi Swamigal – a mystic beyond time and origin – was a being shrouded in divine mystery. No one truly knew his beginnings or roots. For years, he performed intense penance on one leg on the shores of Dhanushkodi, gazing at the sun in silent meditation. Around 1957, he left Dhanushkodi, leaving behind memories of a miracle that only a few fishermen witnessed and cherished forever.
The Journey of the Wandering Sage
After his long penance, Kodi Swamigal traveled with Shri N. Varadarajulu during the early 1950s, moving through Trichy, Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore. He often stayed at the Kallukuzhi Anjaneyar Temple in Trichy before settling at Puravipalayam Palace (1963–1994), where he chose the terrace as his abode until he shed his mortal form.
Beyond Time and Age
Even the most learned astrologers and scientists were mystified by his ageless presence. Palm readings revealed an age of only seven, while his physical form appeared that of a 90-year-old. Medical experts from England and Spain tested his DNA in 1986, but their efforts yielded no clear answers – Kodi Swamigal transcended the boundaries of time and science.
The Silent Saint
Affectionately known as “Kodi Thatha”, he spoke few words, often in cryptic spiritual language (Sukshama). Yet, to those who could grasp their essence, his words were priceless gems. His mere presence radiated peace and calm – transforming all who came near him. Kodi Thatha shunned fame and avoided crowds, choosing instead to guide only the sincere seekers who came his way.
Compassion Beyond Boundaries
Kodi Thatha never confined himself to religion, caste or class. To him, all were equal – be it a king or a commoner. His boundless compassion made him a beloved figure among devotees. He often spoke of distant events with prophetic clarity, once even mentioning the Chicago speech of Swami Vivekananda with remarkable detail.
Eternal Peace at Puravipalayam
Today, his Jeevasamadhi at Puravipalayam invites devotees and seekers into an aura of deep stillness and spiritual elevation. Sitting here, one can feel the silent pulse of his grace – a reminder that true wisdom speaks not in words, but in stillness.
